Hello and welcome! My name is Alecia. I have been the creative mind behind Chicken Scratch NY since late 2012.
I am a 32 year old compulsive crafter, experimental gardener, and curious cook.
I bought my own home in Upstate NY in July 2011. I live with my two daughters, golden retriever, 2.5 cats, 2 alpacas & a barnyard full of poultry on 5 acres of swampy farm land.
I spend spring & summer in the garden, in the fall I cover everything in spider webs and I start listening to Christmas music on November 1st. Growing up my mom always went all out for the holidays and that has always stuck with me.
I don’t have a 5 or 10-year plan but I do know what I want from life. I want to give my kids a good life. Not necessarily an easy life, but a good one.
I’d rather have their days (and mine) filled with mud puddles and tree forts than tv shows. I’m raising them to be independent, creative and compassionate. I hope the way we live will give them perspective on hard work and responsibility.
My goal with CSNY is to show how great life can be if you let go of ‘perfect’. I keep my recipes, gardening and craft projects loosey goosey. You don’t ever need to do things the way I do 100% to get a great result.
Even though they may not be the most popular my favorite posts are:
I can most easily be reached at Alecia [at] ChickenScratchNY.com or on my Instagram page

I came stumbling across your blog looking for info on ee and silver laced wyandotte (rooster) cross. Does the red wing patch hold true still?? We've got a 1 week old chick with a toosh of feathers that the five that are 10/11 days old do not possess as of yet.

I wouldn't bet my life on it but I've never had a chick feather in with red on its wings that wasn't a rooster

What did you paint on the wood to seal it?
