The holiday season is the perfect time for sparkling drinks. Stressed out from shopping? Champagne. Forget to add the sugar to your gingerbread? Champagne. Family won’t stop asking what your six month old baby wants for Christmas? Champagne (baby doesn’t want champagne, mommy does). It’s an A+ holiday problem solver. And you don’t have to drink it alone, that might get boring (and you might get a little too tipsy). I’m hear with the perfect solution! I love Christmas and I really love Christmas Countdowns. Mostly because I never know what day it is and it’s the best way I’ve found to make sure I know when to let the holiday panic set it. You don’t want to panic too early haha. Almost all of the DIY Christmas Countdown projects I’ve seen require buying 25 of something. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got enough stuff in my house! This tree count down is a step up from the basic paper chain, and while it can be a tiny bit tedious if you’re a perfectionist it’s easy enough to throw together.
Fudge is one of those things that I have to save for the holidays. It’s not that I don’t like it, in fact I love it too much. I can easily make myself sick eating it, recover and then do it again the the next day. I never learn. One of my favorite things about fudge is how versatile it is. Just about any flavor combination you can imagine can get turned into a fudge recipe. I’ve done some research (it’s pretty grueling to stare at dozens of fudge recipes when you’re hungry) and picked out 12 fudge recipes that cover the whole spectrum from classic chocolate to the slightly wacky green tea. Get your sweet tooth ready!
There is a Mennonite-owned market on my way home from work; they have the best deli meat, an infinite variety of sprinkles and a whole aisle devoted to chocolate covered things. It’s hard to pick but lately I’ve been drawn to the dark chocolate covered cherries and cranberries. Those snacks were the starting point for two of my holiday recipes this year. First up is a decadent Dark Chocolate Cherry Fudge. You’ll need dried tart cherries for this (they might be called Montmorency). I bought a bag of dried bing cherries first and they tasted like raisins, don’t get those. I bought mine at the same Mennonite market but believe it or not, Target carries them. [Read more…]
