Christmas Topiary Gift Tags

This year I got to be part of an awesome homemade gift tag exchange, there were over 30 participants and I received a giant envelope of loveliness. My tag was inspired by a file I found in the Silhouette Store for Garden Topiaries.

Layer die cut paper, stamps and twine to create festive topiary gift tags pretty enough to hang on the tree

The original tags I made used red ink instead of the embossing ink because I lost my embossing gun. Of course I found it the day after I mailed them out! If you gang up the tag and topiary pieces you can cut quite a few at once! After that it’s assembly line style so this would also make a great group project.

I used two shapes, the Garden Topiaries and the tall tag from this 5 Piece Gift Tag Set. You will also need:

  • Light brown card-stock
  • Dark green card-stock
  • Glue dots
  • Snowflake stamp
  • Embossing Gun
  • Iridescent Embossing Powder
  • Embossing Ink
  • Red Bakers Twine
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

Instructions:

  1. Cut the tags from light brown colored card-stock and your trees from textured green card-stock. If you gang them up you can cut quite a few at once! After that it’s assembly line style so this would also make a great group project.
  2. Attach the topiary piece to the tag with the glue dots
  3. Stamp around the topiary with the embossing ink, sprinkle with the embossing powder and set with the heat gun. Stay around the edges or your snowflakes will be covered by the topiary. You could simplify this and use regular ink and skip the embossing part.
  4. Tie a knot about 1/2 inch away from the end of a piece of bakers twine, cut it off about 1/2 inch from the knot, repeat (you need 3 knots per tag)
  5. Hot glue the knots over the ‘stick’ part of the topiary
  6. Add a twine handing loop

Those are so beautiful! I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't had a chance to really do anything crafty the last little bit. **sigh** I miss making cards & tags so bad!! I hope next week brings me more time...I would love to whip up a batch myself!
