Star Shaped Twig Wreath

There is a window in the door between my kitchen and breezeway, it’s the main entry into the house so I like to make it look nice. It’s tricky because you see it from both sides, and one is against the glass. It also can’t be delicate because it moves when the door opens and slams shuts. I wanted something really simple and fast that I didn’t need to buy anything for. This is what I came up with:

I know it’s not round, but really is that necessary? Alfie helped me find the sticks in the yard. I used 4 that were about the same size and one that mysteriously became shorter while I was working…. ahem.I tied the sticks together with white yarn. It’s a bit haphazard, only the ends are tied so you can shift it around a little. I’m usually a really big fan of symmetry but I wanted something more homey/primitive. This faces the chalk board with the bows so the rustic look works. The cardinals are just like the ones on the mantle (from day 2).

The nest and vines are made from one of those berry bunches with the paper wrapped wire stems. I ripped the whole thing apart, used the berry-less section to make a ring, then wove the ripped off pieces around and across the ring. Then I added more pieces and twisted them around the twigs. The eggs are three pearly white balls from a medium sizes berry spray. The whole thing is held together without glue.
